The Mr D Food delivery driver who was accused by a Cape Town woman of rape has appeared in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court.
Cassiem Imani, 43, was arrested on Monday in Plumstead and appeared in court on Wednesday following allegation that he attacked the women in her Hastings Road home on the weekend.
Police told IOL that the 26-year-old women opened the case on Friday, saying that she had ordered from Spur, which was delivered by a short man who was dark in complexion and wearing black jeans and a hoodie jacket.
According to the woman, the man was a Mr D Foods delivery driver and while getting money to pay him he followed her down the passage of her home, telling her she was beauiful and that he loved her, before pushing her against a wall.
In the original reports, claims were made that the woman fell to the ground and she doesn’t know how his pants were open and he penetrated her before she fought him off by hitting him over the head with a bowl.
During the reading of the docket, the Malawian man stood calmly in the dock while the State prosecutor read that the man tried to pull the woman’s panties off but was unsuccessful as she fought him off.
Magistrate Goolam Bawa then amended the charge docket from rape to attempted rape.
Bail was apposed as Imani was considered a flight risk as he does not have papers to be in South Africa.
Imani will be detained in Pollsmoor Prison until his bail hearing on July 17.
