eThekwini mayor supporters gathered outside Dbn City Hall adamant she will resume her duty

On Wednesday morning eThekwini mayor, Zandile Gumede was expected to return to her duties at Durban City Hall, following her 30 day suspension, but there was no sign of her.

IOL reported that the mayors’ VIP vehicles were still parked in the same place as the day she went on her ‘leave’ on June 30.

ANC KZN provincial secretary, Mdumiseni Ntuli told SAFM that the provincial executive committee had not yet met to discuss the matter since Gumede and  Newcastle mayor, Dr Ntuthuko Mahlaba had been placed on special leave and it is expected that they will stay away until a discussion is made.

On Thursday morning supporters who gathered outside the Durban City Hall from Wednesday evening began chanting and demanding that Gumede be reinstated.

Police had to use stun grenades to disperse the crowds.

The ANC KZN have made it clear that due to Gumede’s charges of fraud and corruption, they do not want her to report for duty.

Both her and Ntuthuko are facing murder charges
