Radio and entertainment personality Thato “DJ Fresh” Sikwane who was fired from Metro FM on Tuesday morning, speaks out.
Fresh was suspended after a listener laid a complaint with the public broadcaster over the use of foul language while on air.
Social media broke the internet when it began trending #FreshOn405 after Fresh appeared as a guest on Newzroom Afrika’s morning television news show, Breaking Dawn with Sizwe Dhlomo and Gugu Mhlungu.
Fans were elated to see him on the show as a guest presenter but shortly thereafter the SABC announced the immediate termination of Fresh’s contract.
The radio personality who had previously worked for 5FM, thanked his listeners and colleagues for their contribution to making his experience on Fresh Breakfast with Metro FM a magical experience.
Fresh said he has no regrets about the way things worked out as he believes that fair labour practice is about correction more than it is about disciplinary and he apologises to anyone he offended, he will do better next time.
He was heard previously saying he may never return to radio, but in ending his time with SABC said he will be starting a new chapter with a new show on August 1.
