eThekwini mayor Zandile Gumede’s 30-day leave of absence might be extended as the African National Congress (ANC) have not yet finalised her matter.
Gumede is due to return to work on Wednesday.
She was released on R50,000 bail for charges relating to her awarding Durban Solid Waste a tender worth more than R200-million.
ANC KZN spokesperson Nomagugu Simelane-Zulu told eNCA tht the Provincial Executive Committee will make the decision as to Gumede’s return. Should a decision not be made, Gumede will return to work.
The team are investigating the bail conditions and how they affect her operations as mayor. The results will be submitted to the Provincial Working Committee before going to the Provincial executive Committee for decision.
Gumede is due back in court on charges of corruption and fraud on August 8.
