The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has taken precautionary measures and frozen 2,800 beneficiary accounts due to potential fraud.
Sassa has advised banks to cease the 2,200 payments and the South African Post Office to stop 600 payments to beneficiary accounts following a case of suspected fraud.
These accounts have been frozen and in the event that any beneficiary is unable to access their grant, they are advise to:
- Make an affidavit at their local police station.
- Take their green bar coded ID or smart card ID to their nearest Sassa office and complete an affidavit.
- The affidavit’s must be done in person by the relevant account holder.
Officials at the agency are ready to assist and all beneficiaries will receive their July grant.
