The man accused of kidnapping, raping and killing Durban North sex worker Siam Lee, Philani Ntuli, has died.
Lee, 20, was abducted from a brothel in Durban North in January 2017 and her charred body was found in a sugarcane field in New Hanover two days later.
During the trail it became known that Ntuli had obtained Lee’s detail on a website, Red Velvet, where Lee had advertised her services as a sensual masseuse.
Ntuli became acquainted with Lee and became a regular client.
When Lee no longer wanted to have any contact with Ntuli he kidnapped her and held her hostage at his home in Hillcrest where he raped her.
He then drove her to New Hanover where he set her alight with petrol in the sugarcane field. She died on scene.
Lee’s lawyer, Reial Mahabeer told TimesLIVE that Ntuli had been diagnosed with skin cancer and was undergoing treatment but had died on Friday morning.
Ntuli, 30, was arrested weeks after the murder and appeared in the Durban High Court in March to set a trial date.
