Plane grounded at King Shaka International after discovery of abandoned fetus on FlySafair

A very disturbing and horrendous discovery was made by technical crew members on FlySafair on Friday morning.

While the cleaning team were clearing the waste management system of an aircraft at King Shaka International Airport in Durban they discovered a disposed fetus.

Passengers who had boarded the plane for Johannesburg were asked to disembark while management made arrangements for another aircraft.

The process of draining the system has haulted and authorities were called to the scene to investigate.

FlySafair’s Kirby Gordon said that as this was Flight FA 411’s first flight of the day the fetus could have been disposed of last night or this morning.

The flight was delayed indefinitely due to the investigation.

According to the University of Pretoria’s Forensic Medicine Department’s Lorraine du Toit-Prinsloo, the law in South Africa is complex and depending on the gestation of the fetus, the person responsible may not even be charged with a crime.
