Zuma ordered to pay his legal costs

The Pretoria High Court has dismissed former president Jacob Zuma’s appeal against the December 2018 judgement regarding the use of State funds to pay for his defence costs.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) last year estimated the costs to be around R32-million while the Democratic Alliance (DA) calculated it to be about R16-million that Zuma has already cost taxpayers, going back to 2006.

The Citizen said the the court ordered the state attorney to take whatever action necessary to recover the money which was spent on Zuma’s legal bill.

The court application was brought by the DA to have the money paid back and later the EFF joined the quest.  Both parties stated that the agreement between President Cyril Ramaphosa and his predecessor regarding the state paying Zuma’s legal costs was unlawful.
