A vigilante mob in Johannesburg took the law into their own hands on Saturday and castrated a man who was suspected of being part of a group who raped two teenage girls.
The girls, aged 14 and 18, were allegedly raped by a group of three men at an informal settlement in Ivory Park, Johannesburg on Saturday evening, while they were on their way to Lindokuhle informal settlement.
A member of the public who witnessed the incident said the girls were confronted by the suspects, arms with a knife and firearm, and raped repeatedly.
According to EWN, the witness alerted the community who came out to confront the rapists. Two suspects escaped, but the third was caught and killed at the scene.
Police have opened a case of murder against the mob but no arrests have been made and are still searching for the other two suspects and have appealed to the public not to take matters into their own hands.
Ivory Park is a settlement just outside Tembisa with a population of around 200 000 people. The Lindokuhle settlement is densely-populated and the community is close, going to any length to protect it’s members.
