SABC radio producer dismissed for bribery

A SABC radio stations current affairs executive producer was dismissed on Monday after being found guilty of his involvement in a jobs-for-sale scam.

Thobela FM’s Sam Mochichila was found guilty of two charges of gross dishonesty and contravention of SABC rules and regulations relating to R2,000 received from former current affairs producer and presenter Tlou Moabelo.

According to the Sowetan who has seen the charge sheet, during his employment last year Mochiachila bused his position by receiving money from Moabelo in exchange for the renewal of her contract.

During a forensic investigation Mochichila advised his team to inform investigators that the money that was received was as a contribution toward the society.

Mochiachila may challenge the dismissal but has five days in which to do so.

The broadcaster’s conflict of interest policy which states that any person must report a cash gift or other benefit from a third party with a value of more than R350 must report it to their direct supervisor.  Mochichila did not comply with this policy.

The SABC terminated Moabelo’s contract earlier this year after finding her guilty of unethical behavior in relation to this matter.
