Mixed emotions over Kalvin Periasamy’s death

The funeral of suspected Bloods gang ring leader Kalvin Periasamy who was gunned down at Gateway Shopping Mall in Durban was held on Saturday.

According to IOL Kalvin was recently released on bail of R10 000 for drug charges, however his brother Kevin was unable to attend the funeral as he is still in prison and due to appear in court next month.

The 30-year-old minibus and tow truck businessman has been linked to a drug ring which runs the Phoenix area, north-west of Durban.

His family defended him to media by saying he was a well-respected, legitimate businessman. He was never charged with drug possession.

His wife was too distraught to speak to the media and requested his cousin to do so. Chantelle called his killer a coward and said that police should be investigating the person who videoed and photographed the scene because that person was there before the police.

His children saw the images all over social media before they knew what had happened.

Periasamy was accused of the murder of Enver Ramsamy along with Shaffique Cassim, 24, and Abdul Kader Latiff, 37, in 2016.

He was also charged, along with his brother and five other people in a separate case for the possession of two pistols, a shotgun, 64 live rounds of ammunition, 1836 heroin caps, 138 heroin straws, 80 large crack cocaine pieces, 30 mandrax tablets, three bags of cocaine, two ecstasy pills, 186g of dagga, and R97 156 from his property in January 2018.

Ramsamy’s wife, Shireen told IOL that her husband could rest in peace as justice had been served.
