A two-year-old boy was mauled to death by a leopard at the Malelane Technical Services living quarters in Kruger National Park on Wednesday evening.
SanParks spokesperson Ike Phaala said the 30-month-old who was the son of staff member was taken by the leopard at around 8pm.
The Section and Regional Ranger went in search of him and shot the leopard dead to prevent any further attacks.
The boy was rushed to Shongwe Hospital by family members but unfortunately could not be saved.
Phaala said that these type of incidents are very rare but occasionally predators become used to the rangers and tourists and an attack might occur.
EWN reported that the boys family have been offered counselling by the park.
