Police are investigating the murder of Phoenix Blood Gang boss Kalvin Periasamy at the Gateway Mall in Umhlanga, Durban on Thursday,
The 30-year-old tow-truck and minibus taxi owner was shot in the back of the head at close range while on his way to his vehicle after exiting the gym at the Gateway Centre of Shopping.
Periasamy, who was standing trial for alleged drug dealing, was recently involved in a tow truck dispute but police are unsure as to the motive behind his death as yet.
According to IOL Periasamy and his older brother Kevin who run the business together have been warned on numerous occasions to remove their tow trucks from the Durban Central Business district.
According to staff members at the mall, three shots were fired but it wasn’t until the police arrived that they knew what had happened and saw the man lying on the floor with blood oozing from his head.
One mall staffer claimed that Periasamy’s wife was still in the gym even though he had left.
