The elderly woman who was tied to the hospital bench at Mamelodi regional hospital last week is still emotionally scarred from the four staff members who traumatised her.
Martha Marais, 76, was admitted to the hospital for vomiting and has been recuperating at her home in Eersterust since Saturday.
Her family discovered her tied to the steel bench and lying on the floor less than 24 hours after her admission.
Marais told Pretoria Moot Rekord that she was praying for her life because she was so cold on the floor that she thought she was going to die.
She is afraid that the staff who were suspended will arrive at her home and harm her.
Director of communication at the Gauteng department of health, Lesemang Matuka said that four hospital staff members and a security guard were placed on ‘special leave’ on the weekend and an investigation is currently being done into the incident.
A doctor, nurse and psychologist visited Martha at her home yesterday and brought her a new pair of crutches as hers were stolen during her hospital ordeal.
The family have opened a case of assault at the Mamelodi east police station.
