80 Homes illegally demolished in Alex by Red Ants

An appeal has been made to the City of Johannesburg to provide relief and trauma counselling to Alexandra residents after many were left homeless last week.

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Gauteng chairperson Mandisa Mashigo addressed the Alexandra community on Monday as many were left without shelter after the Red Ants destroyed more than 80 houses.

It is reported that residents erected illegal housing structures near the Juskei River following the recent protests regarding service delivery.

EWN reported that Mashego stated that the Red Ants had acted illegally and unconstitutionally and a motion has been passed that they must no longer be used.
