A 22-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday in Mpumalaga for the alleged rape and murder of two girls, aged 6 and 7 in April.
The girls were seen playing near their parents home on April 22, the day before they went missing.
TimesLIVE reported that their bodies were found in a ditch in the Mganduzweni Trust in Masoyi and it appeared that the younger girl had been raped.
A sangoma was apparently consulted who falsely accused a pastor and his nephew as the perpetrators. They were burnt to death by the community who conducted their own mob-justice.
Police spokesperson Colonel Mtsholi Bhembe stated that the suspect, who was related to the girls, claimed to have placed them in someone else’s care.
It appears that the pastor and his nephew might have been murdered for no reason.
It is alleged that the suspect also murdered Khensani Sambo, 20 on March 26 at Shabalala Trust, near Hazyview as he advised police as to the whereabouts of the body.
The suspect has appeared in the Kabokweni magistrate’s court in respect of the murder of Sambo and remains in custody until his next appearance on June 5.
