Malema urges IEC upgrade the voter system

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) confirmed on Thursday that there was a negligible risk that some voters were able to make multiple votes in last weeks elections.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has appealed to the IEC to modernise their systems before the 2021 elections in order to prevent the risk of abuse.

EWN reported that Statistician-General Risenga Maluleke conducted an investigation into voter fraud after reports came in that the indelible ink could be washed off and people were able to vote on multiple occasions at different voter stations.

Maluleke probed into the data from 1,020 voting stations and claimed his findings revealed negligible risk of double voting.

The investigation resulted in 20 people being arrested.

Multiple smaller political parties have threatened to take action against the IEC regarding possible irregularities during the elections.

Malema said that the sixth Parliament must provide the IEC with a clear mandate on improving the systems as incompetence could lead to violence.
