ANC will take action against medical aids guilty of racism

The Gauteng African National Congress (ANC) intend on filing a complaint with the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) regarding the alleged discrimination and racial profiling conducted by certain medical aid schemes.

According to a group of black and Indian private medical practitioners they have been battling to recover payments for services they have provided to Medscheme and Discovery clients and believe it is due to racism.

The group claim that there is a national list of names which has been circulated between medical aid schemes and those practitioners from across the country are being  targeted.

Dr Gumede appealed to medical aid schemes during an SABC inverview, not to exploit practitioners financially.

The ANC said in a statement that if the allegations against the medical aid schemes are found to be true, they are undermining what government are trying to achieve and will call on the human rights commission to begin the legal process.

The ANC will not tolerate racial discrimination in any form and those found guilty will face the full might of the law.
