North West police officers arrested on corruption charge

A warrant officer and a police sergeant were arrest in North West on Tuesday on charges of corruption.

The two officers arrested a man in connection with house-breaking and theft in Letlhabile and took him the holding cells at the Letlhabile police station where he was awaiting his court appearance at Brits Magistrate’s Court.

According to SowetanLIVE, the sergeant allegedly approached the suspect and offered to assist him with his bail release.

The sergeant allegedly requested R2,000 to facilitate the release and R500 for the bail.

The police’s anti-corruption unit received a tip-off and made the arrest of the police officers at the Brits Magistrates Court.

They have been charged with corruption and defeating the ends of justice and will appear in the Brits Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
