Four armed attackers killed a man and injured his wife on their farm outside Kapteinsdrift, outside Bonnievale in the Western Cape.
South African Police Services (SAPS) Lieutenant Colonel Andre Traut told the Citizen that they are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack which occurred on Monday evening at around 18h30.
The couple, both 55, were allegedly held hostage by the assailants before the female victim was able to escape and seek help from a neighbour, with a stab wound to her chest. She had also been burnt with hot water on her back.
The husbands body was discovered by police about 200m from the house.
The house had been ransacked and a firearm safe had been removed.
