Alexandra township’s Shutdown Committee have vowed to continue with peaceful protests until Johannesburg mayor Herman Mashaba responds to their issues.
After a long wait and many protest days Mashaba arrived at a packed Malboro Comminity Hall on Monday evening to address the community but was not given chance to speak as residents heckled him.
Residents were unhappy with the use of the Hall as a venue as they wanted the mayor to experience the conditions they are living in.
Mashaba was bombarded with insults and eventually left after a memorandum was handed to him with the instruction to respond to their issues within 14 days.
It is rumoured that the ANC caused disruptions at the gathering however committee spokesperson Bobby Solomons told eNCA that they cannot chase people away from a community initiative as they are residents.
