SABC 1’s show Cutting Edge recently ran an episode which addressed the topic of false prophets covering the stories of Shepherd Bushiri and Alph Lukau.
The investigative show exposed a number of scams and discussed why people are driven by the churches.
One of the fake pastors the show discussed was Shepherd Bushiri of the Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) Church who was arrested in January on charges of fraud and money laundering following a cover-up incident where three deceased ladies were removed from his church after a stampede, without informing police.
Another was Alph Lukau of the alleluia Ministries who became famous after his resurrection stint where he paid his camera man Elliot Moyo to pretend to return from death.
Lukau also recruited 27-year-old Samantha Revesai to come to the church where she was brought before the congregation and it was announced that she had been cleared of her HIV positive status, yet she was never diagnosed with HIV..
All these scams were to convince people that the church pastors are miracle workers and to encourage people to join the congregation.
