In a three-hour ordeal, rescuers saved a newborn baby from a storm water drain in Newlands East in KwaZulu Natal early on Monday morning.
A passerby in the area heard a baby crying and alerted police.
Emergency workers, comprising of SAPS Search and Rescue, Metro Police and eThekwini Fire Department dug a trench to reach the baby on the corner of Herring Circle and Barracuda Road.
According to reports, the baby girl, who still had her umbilical cord attached, was was airlifted to a nearby hospital and is in a stable condition.
This is the second baby found dumped in the past week.
Last week a newborn was found in a rubbish bin on the corner of Bulwer Road and Lytton Avenue in Glenwood.
Unfortunately paramedics were not able to reach the baby in time and despite all efforts, it died.
