DUT lecturer found dead

A Durban University of Technology (DUT) lecturer was found deceased after being assaulted in the residence at Steve Biko campus in Winterton on Sunday.

As a registered homeopath and residence advisor, Dr Euvette Taylor, 30, was employed at DUT’s Health Services.

Details of his death are still unknown and the matter is under investigation by police.

IOL reported that students who reside at the Winterton campus were woken at 04:00 with the sound of police sirens.

There have been speculations that Taylor was stabbed while others claim he was asphyxiated as there had been a strong gas smell emanating from his room.

Police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele told media that a case of murder has been opened at the Berea police station and would only reveal that assault wounds were found on the deceased.

Taylor who appeared on the Mail & Guardian’s 200 Young South Africans list in 2017’s VW Amarok bakkie was recovered in Umlazi.
