Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Mmusi Maimaine’s plan to amend the Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) policy might work against him.
Maimane rejected criticism that he wanted to scrap the policy and stated that he merely does not support the ANC’s model. His plan is to educate, develop enterprises and broaden inclusion.
Reports surfaced on the weekend that DA officials had stated they plan to move away from the BEE and offer an adjustment thereof.
Political analyst, Amanda Gouws told IOL that liberal parties never accepted the BEE policy set out by the ANC and that the DA risks loosing black voters if they amend the policy.
A report titled ‘Vula” was compiled in 2019 by the DA which details an economy which is open for business. The 152 page document states the party plan to dump the BEE policy and replace it with an environment social governance (ESG)
ANC national spokesperson Zizi Kodwa said that if the DA did this, once in government, would bring back apartheid.
