Over the weekend, several areas of the Eastern Cape including Nelson Mandela Bay saw heavy rainfall. Significant rainfall- between 30mm and 42mm- was recorded in catchment areas, which brings hope that dam levels will raise soon. As several Eastern Cape areas are in the midst of a severe drought, increased dam levels could alleviate water restrictions.
However, the heavy rains also had dire consequences for some in the Eastern Cape. The rains caused flooding, which led to power outages, road closures and the flooding of several homes. Residents should prepare themselves for continued flooding, as more rainfall is expected later in the week.
