Violence At TUT After Alleged SRC Election Corruption. At the Tshwane University of Technology…

Last week students’ representative council (SRC) elections were held at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT). Allegations quickly came to light that the SRC elections were rigged. Violent protests broke out on Thursday at the Soshanguve Campus after the allegations were made.

The violence allegedly began when students noticed that there weren’t enough ballots, but soon found that a presiding officer was hiding the ballots. Police were called to the scene, which resulted in the shooting of 23-year-old student Katlego Monarang, who sadly passed away. The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) is investigating the incident.
