The national power supplier, Eskom, hasn’t been doing well for the past few months and seems to be continuing on that trend. However, company chairman Jabu Mabuza recently admitted that Eskom’s financial problems are self-inflicted due to a deal it made with Gupta-owned Tegeta.
Eskom has been accused of R19 billion spent irresponsibly, mismanagement of operations, among other things. Additionally, the majority of their stations have far less than enough coal- only enough for just under one month. The lack of coal and low wages are also recipe for another mass protests by employees.
