This past Monday, the City of Cape Town released its annual enforcement report. This report showed that the amount of attacks on CT law enforcement and EMS crews have been increasing throughout the years.
Between July 2016-June 2017, there were only 21 reported attacks on metro police officers. For the period between July of 2017 and June of this year, that number has increased to 59. Due to the increasing amount of attacks, officers now need to work in pairs, which means that officers can’t cover as much ground as before.
With that being said, metro police officers have made just over 800 more arrests this year compared to last year.
