Yesterday marked the second attack on an Eastern Cape police station this month. Early Monday morning, four gunmen burst into an EC police station.
Police officers in the station were held at gunpoint while some of the gunmen walked around to the holding cells and killed a 38-year old person in custody. The killing is said to have appeared like a hit on that particular prisoner. While the motive is unknown, the prisoner was arrested last month for firearm possession.
The gunmen fled the scene, but an investigation is underway. National Police Commissioner General Sitole said, “The security of our police stations and the safety of our members and detainees in our police stations are of the highest priority.”
