Prominent South Africans Including Teko Modise In Legal Trouble Over Failure to Submit Tax Returns.

In South Africa, it is a criminal offense to fail to submit your tax returns. In the past three months, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has charged 35 VAT vendors and taxpayers for this exact reason. The courts have finalised 10 of these cases and remanded 24 cases. Several prominent South Africans have been convicted and sentenced for these crimes, including professional footballer Teko Tsholofelo Modise.

The NPA has over 70 more failure to submit tax return cases to review, while SARS is investigating 25 more cases before sending their findings to relevant authorities.
