Private Healthcare Costs in South Africa Too Expensive.

The Competition Commission has released its findings of a four-year investigation into South Africa’s private healthcare sector. Former Chief Justice Sandile Ngcobo led the investigation and claims that not only are private healthcare costs exorbitant, but many doctors prescribe unnecessary medicine or treatments due to the lack of competition in the industry.

The results of the Competition Commission’s thorough investigation could be used as support for Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi’s proposition to implement a national medical insurance plan in order to give everyone fair access to high-quality healthcare.
