Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini is both disappointed and enraged over the possibility of the Ingonyama Trust Act being either repealed or altered. He has scrutinized the ANC-led government for attempting to change the act, which became official in 1994 and denotes that some rural areas of Kwazulu-Natal be owned by the King and overseen by traditional leaders.
The Ingonyama Trust currently owns nearly 30% of the rural land in the Kwazulu-Natal province. King Zwelithini has cautioned the Zulu people not to trust the government, as they have “declared a war against all Zulus.” He has also stated that, if the act were to be changed, he would be forced to go to war.
