Facebook user Velaphi Khumalo, a South African citizen, makes us wonder whether we really live in a cohesive rainbow nation. In January 2016, he posted some racially-charged comments on Facebook encouraging people of color to purge white South Africans from the country: “I want to cleanse this country of all white people. We must act as Hitler did to the Jews.”
It has been over two years since Khumalo’s Facebook comments were made- including those that expressed distrust of white members of the ANC- but he is now being taken to court for his harsh words. On Monday, he will sit before the Equality Court and face 19 complaints made against him by the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC).
