Multichoice South Africa CEO Calvo Mawela is calling on the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) to hold Netflix accountable and “level the playing field.”
Mawela attributes the declining number of DStv subscribers to the fact that Netflix is taking over as a media services provider in South Africa, but is unregulated in the country. He claims that because they do not pay income tax or hire locals, they should not be allowed to operate on such a large scale in the country.
These comments, however, are coming from the CEO of what many believe to be a monopoly in South Africa.
