NUM national congress meeting on Wednesday. Retrenchments, safety, Mining charter and support for ANC on agenda

JOHANNESBURG – The highly anticipated national Congress of the National Union Mineworkers is set to commence today in Boksburg.

The conference agenda will cover the issue of increasing retrenchments, electing a new leadership and safety.

NUM’s Livhuwani Mammburu said,

“The main issue will be retrenchments we’ve seen in mining, energy and construction.”

Also regarding safety he said,

“We’ve seen recently the number of people who have died at Sibanye Stillwater… there’s almost 20 people that have died.”

Also to be discussed is the new mining charter open for public input and the Union’s support for the ANC during next years general elections.
